Maybe this makes me old, but whenever I see the acronym “IYKYK,” I can’t help but say it phonetically in my head as “Ick-Yick,” and it makes me giggle every time. That being said, this song from da nang is far from a laughing matter.

“IYKYK” from da nang is, as the band puts it, “a sea shanty for the heartbroken.” Sure, there’s a playful vibe to this song, complete with rowdy gang vocals and a furious pace, but at its core, this is a breakup anthem inspired by one of the members of the band being ghosted after a seven-year relationship. Can you imagine? Seven years with someone and they just ghost you?! Clearly, there are some mixed emotions that come with that, from anger to pain, and this band has put all of those in this infectiously energized song. The way this band can balance fun and pain is stunning throughout this song and I love that, instead of leaning into the serious nature of the situation, da nang treats this song like a pick-up track that you can lean on when you just need a friend.
