I just got a text from a friend with the age-old adage, “When it rains, it pours.” It’s absolutely pouring outside, and with today being election day, I feel like I’m stuck in a thunderstorm of emotions and stress. Long story short, it seems only fitting that we kick today off with “When It Rains” from Last Second Dropout.

The final track from Last Second Dropout’s ‘One Day Early EP,’ “When It Rains” is a soft and somber little number but don’t let the somber nature of this song fool you. There’s something so beautifully raw and energizing about the song. The subject matter is super dark but, ultimately, beautiful. As Last Second Dropout puts it, “This is a song about the MAID program in Canada which stands for Medical Assistance in Dying and my feelings on it about as a young disabled person. I’ve had two close family friends choose to use the program and think it was a really beautiful choice for them in their end of life care. I also believe in making a world that supports young disabled people so that they can live long, dignified lives. This song is about both of those beliefs existing within me at the same time.” Like I said, dark but also beautiful. Regardless of your feelings on programs like MAID or anything of the like, I highly suggest you check out “When It Rains” for a beautiful look at the whole situation and for just an all-around beautiful song.
