Going to shows alone is the worst.

I hate it. Having to stand in line waiting to get into a show all alone is the worst. You can play on your phone all you want and chain-smoke until your lungs turn black, but it doesn’t help. You get to stand there all by yourself and watch everyone else in their groups of friends having a great time. Some people are able just to jump in and meet new people easily. Not me, I am probably one of the shyest and most awkward people ever when you first meet me.

So I just stand there, see how many times I can reload Facebook in a single minute and hope to god someone posted something interesting but they never do.

One more smoke? Sure, 4 smokes in twenty minutes never killed anyone did it? (Sorry mom and dad).

Finally, my turn at the door and I’m in! And then I go back to standing there, all alone, on my phone.

Going to shows alone is the worst.

Until the music starts.

That’s when it hits you. You’re not alone! How could you ever feel that way?!

All of a sudden it’s you and 500 of your closest friends. You’re singing along to the same words, nodding your heads to the same beat. How could you ever think you were alone? You may never know their names, you’ll never know their story, but you’ll know that they were with you that one time you saw that one band because that night…. that night you were family.

Going to shows alone is the worst. But bring a pack a smokes and a fully charged phone to get you through the waiting in line and then just let it happen. Once the music starts, let yourself dance like a fool. Let yourself scream the words until your voice goes out. Make the best friends of your life that you will never meet.
