Some songs just catch you within the first fifteen seconds. It’s hard to describe but there are just some things that make you stop everything that you’re doing and fall helplessly into a track. That’s what happened as soon as I hit play on “This Ride” from The Transcontinentals.
When compared to what I typically share out and listen to, “This Ride” definitely lacks that angst and aggression that I love so much yet I was, as mentioned, helplessly caught by this track. A perfect and beautiful blend of indie-pop, alt-rock, and with some pop-punk nods, I felt like this song balance that line between emotional and infectiously poppy perfectly with a blend that I can only describe as being The Transcontinentals’. Even with those aforementioned genres, I feel like there’s a whole lot more to this song. There’s an almost 90s style to the vocals and a beat that makes you want to get up and dance in a ridiculous manner that should probably be seen by nobody but go ahead and get up and dance when you hit play on this song. I’m a big advocate of “dancing it out” and this is the perfect theme song to those moments. As the pitch I got with this song said, “The Transcontinentals are a small band with a big sound” and I think that’s truly the best way to describe this song.
