I have never heard of “Beach Western Emo” music before but that was the description I got with “Slush Puppy” from Deth Coast. Sure, I had never heard of music being referred to as “Beach Western Emo” before but, after listening to this track, I want’s oh so much more of it.
“Slush Puppy” is a fairly short track at just under two minutes long but it definitely lays out a sound that can only be referred to as “Deth Coast” in that short amount of time. Although I’m still a bit confused as to what “beach western emo” means, I will say that this song seems to bring in influences of everything from surf rock to garage punk to emo pop-punk. Think Fidlar meets Joyce Manor with a hint of The Strokes and the fury of PUP. It truly is a unique blend that ends up creating a super infectious and high-energy sound. The short length of this song mixed with the nearing chaotic beat means that this song is over before you know it but, if you’re like me, this short snippet from Deth Coast will have you intrigued and ready to dig into their other material out there.
