I absolutely love bands and songs that take a bunch of genres that shouldn’t go together and flawlessly sew them together into one beautiful track, album, or style. That’s exactly what you get when listening to “Paper Tigers” from Gottlieb. Although I can’t speak to anything more than this one single from the band, I think it’s safe to assume that I am about to go down a glorious rabbit hole after telling you about this particular song.
Gottlieb has taken the intensity of post-punk, the aggression of metalcore, the speed of punk, and the catchiness of straight-up rock and have created something beautiful in “Paper Tigers”. This quick song (it’s under two minutes long) packs a punch and keeps you on your toes throughout the song. Nothing about this song is typical whether it’s the composition or vocal styles throughout the track that seem to jump all over the place. Honestly, this song shouldn’t work but Gottlieb does it with such a sense of passion and creativity that it’s impossible not to fall in love with this song. Check out and show these guys some love!
