We all know “Barracuda” by Heart. Love it or hate it, it’s a classic that, after just one listen, will get stuck in your head for days on end. It’s a bold move to cover such a timeless classic but New Zealand-based Devilskin has done it with their own twist making it a whole new song with the same lasting power as the original.
The iconic guitar lick throughout this track are familiar but, beyond that that, change everything you know about “Barracuda”. Devilskin brings this classic to a whole new level adding a hard rock and slight glam metal edge to the track. I love the fact that this cover pays homage to the 1977 classic while bringing new twists and turns to it. The vocals throughout this cover are what really had me hooked. They bring a raw sense of power and intensity to the track while still staying smooth and clear. That same sentiment could be said for everything else going on in this track. From dazzling guitar solos to the chugging beat, I really can not stress enough that you need to throw out everything you know about the original “Barracuda” before checking out Devilskin’s version.
Devilskin just released their six-song EP ‘SURFACING’ so, if you like what you hear here. I highly suggest checking out the entire EP. It’s a heck of a way to get your day started and will fill you with more than enough energy to get through the day.
