I don’t know about the myth of Persephone eating the pomegranate as an explanation for seasons but I love the fact that that is part of the inspiration behind “Agradecido” from Icarus Phoenix. There’s just something so fantastical about the story (yes, I took a second to read into it) and I love how that almost mystical vibe creeps into this song.
Right off the bat, you get introduced to Icarus Phoenix’s retro tinter sound in a beautiful way. There is no delay, the band instantly dives into a song that is half story telling and half catchy bop. Whether you get hooked by the storytelling and beautiful lyrics in this song or that infectious jangle that comes with the instrumentation, one listen to “Agradecido” will have you hooked and leave you wanting so much more. Lucky for you, Guitarist and vocalist Drew Danbury has been independently touring and releasing records since 2002 and has release over 400 songs, 20 albums and 13 EPs so go ahead and go down that rabbit hole. I promise it will be time well spent!
