The song title of this newish track from It’s Always You had me hooked. I have a thing with looking people straight in their eyes. It freaks me out until it doesn’t. I think eyes are a strange thing and a very personal thing so I avoid direct eye contact at all costs but, sometimes, if I’m feeling daring, I will stare right into the soul of a stranger. Okay, deep thoughts for a Thursday morning but, long story short, this song from It’s Always You had me hooked before even pressing play. When I pressed play, it was as if my world had been turned upside down.

This song is quick at only two and a half minutes long. On top of that, the speed of the beat is intense making this already short song feel that much shorter. That being said, “I Swear to Look People Straight In Their Eyes” packs an emotional punch that will carry you through this song and then some. The emotion isn’t a surprise given that this is a song that deals with losing someone close to you and the realization that they are never coming back. You can feel that angst, desperation, and sadness throughout this track with the presentation of the shouted and almost frantic vocals. Even with that, there’s a sense of comfort that can be taken away from this song. Much like bands such as Touche Amore and La Dispute, the beauty of this song comes from all angles– the angst, the words, the instrumentation, the delivery– heck, everything. It’s a powerful statement piece of a song and more than worthy of your attention.
