I first heard of Snotty Nose Rez Kids on NPR. I was driving to work early in the morning and I heard a sound that instantly had me hooked. It was rap and hip-hop based but was so much more than that. There was so much fire and passion– I was in love and ended up being late to work that day just so I could catch the name of the band. I’ve been obsessed ever since then and have been looking forward to catching Snotty Nose Rez Kids live but the show they have scheduled for here in the Twin Cities has now been pushed back multiple times and I’m starting to wonder if it’s going to happen at all. After hearing their new song “NO DOGS ALLOWED”, I need it to happen.
“NO DOGS ALLOWED” is off of Snotty Nose Rez Kids’ upcoming album ‘RED FUTURE’ which is due out on September 13th. This track shows a new side of this band that I wasn’t quite expecting. It’s brash and unapologetic. It’s aggressive and in your face. Honestly, it reminds me more of bands like H09909 and Death Grips than anything else but it still has that unique Snotty Nose Rez Kids vibe behind it. As the band puts it, “NO DOGS ALLOWED is for all the outcasts who were never invited to the party, those that never fell in with the cool kids. It’s an anthem for the weirdos that walk among us, who never really gave a fuck about your opinion of them! It’s for the dreamers that stayed true to themselves no matter the shit they had to crawl through to get there. It’s the anthem that’ll be bangin’ through the speakers when we kick the fuckin doors down to the spaces that never welcomed us in.” Honestly, nothing more needs to be said. Check out this show and inevitably fall in love with this indigenous hip-hop duo.
