Girl at the Rock Shows

I still have not been able to catch Halfway Down live, which is a bummer, but other than that, “Things Are Going Great,” and I am already in the mood to check out another new song (even though I literally just did one) so let’s check out a brand new one from this local Saint Paul, Minnesota based band!

Halfway Down tried something new in this song. They had the two first choruses sung by different people and in different styles. Sounds like this track should feel a bit chaotic and choppy, right? Well, when you’re a band as solid as Halfway Down, you are somehow able to pull of those two different singer thing without any flaws. “Things Are Going Great” does a great job of shining a light on the more angsty side of this trio. Their style is a blend of emo and pop-punk, but this song seems to bring a subtle hardcore influence. This song isn’t aggressive; don’t get me wrong. It’s honestly super boppy and infectious, but this line of angst seems to pull through the entire three and a half minutes, elevating the overall sound and vibe. Long story short, I’m still bummed I have not caught Halfway Down live at this point but am stoked to see that they are still releasing amazing new music like “Things Are Going Great”.
