Honestly, I’m having a pretty smooth day today (knock on wood). Normally, a song title like “EVERYTHING SUCKS” would hook me because it’s relatable but, today, this song title hooked me because it reminded me of a favorite band of mine- Descendents. Their album “Everything Sucks” is iconic and one of my go-tos. Maybe by having the same song title (although the title track from Descendents is spelled “Everything Sux”) will make this track from hiccup another instant classic for me.
“EVERYTHING SUCKS” in a huge melting pot. It’s a melting pot of sounds with the way that hiccup blends and blurs lines with everything from pop-punk to happy hardcore and all the way to a more standard alt-rock vibe. Not only does that create a melting pot vibe, so do the lyrics. This song is a bit of a rant about all of the things that hiccup wishes they could change. The lyrics are tongue-in-cheek and, at times, even snarky but are also so honest, real, and relatable. Overall, this song is about wanting more than what you have. It’s a punk anthem for those who are never truly satisfied and will have you jumping up and down with your fist in the air due to the sheer amount of power and energy that comes with this flawless track.
