There comes a point in stress where you just give in and give up. Okay, “give up” isn’t the right phrase because I will never give up, but, truthfully, I’m done stressing out about trying to get everything done all at once. It’s just not going to happen, and I really need to get better at just acknowledging that I can only do all that I can do with the time given, and it’s okay to fall behind sometimes because, at the end of the day, I’m human, not a machine. I feel like I’ve explained this to you all before, and I have a good day with this mentality, but quickly shift back into my doom and gloom, stressed and exhausted self. Not this time– I’m going to stick with it and songs like “Dead Man Dancing” from Je Ne Sais What?! are surely going to help.
“Dead Man Dancing” is the debut single from Je Ne Sais What?! and it definitely has me intrigued. At the beginning, this song gave me all kinds of Panic at the Disco theatrical leaning vibes but, as the song moves on, you get treated to a more classic emo-leaning pop-punk bop. The beat mixed with the intricacies of the instrumentation and the clear vocals creates such a cool vibe that can be compared to a million different acts of years gone by, but can never really be accurately described as anything but “Je Ne Said What?!” Although this song is super fun and danceable (even the breakdown in this track has an infectious energy to it), like all great pop-punk anthems, the lyrics are actually kind of dark. They speak of themes of addiction and avoidance and how, at the end of the day, these things can ruin your life. Pretty fitting as I try to find ways to settle my spirit and soul amidst a super stressful time, don’t you think?
