Girl at the Rock Shows

I have a self-induced stomach ache. I went a little unconscious on the bag of pretzels sitting on my desk out of frustration over the constantly flowing emails, and now I regret it. This has nothing to do with “No Everafter” from Clone the Wolf, but the stomach ache gave me a reason to take a break from things and dive into some new music to distract myself, if only for a few minutes, and I instantly knew that this was the perfect distraction for me.

Although this song starts off very lush and light, it doesn’t stay that way. I absolutely loved how, out of nowhere, just a few seconds in, everything about this song changes, and you hear the sheer power that Clone the Wolf does so well. It’s heavy but tender at the same as if tying the beautiful beginning into a woven pattern with the power of this band that persists throughout this three and a half minute long song. Although I felt there were times in this track where the vocals could have done with a bit more grit and angst, I found myself more captivated by the musicianship than anything else. I loved hearing the sparkling guitars pop in and out between the heavy hits of the drums and everything else happening. You know when you’re walking through a bunch of trees on a summer day and you can see these peeks of sunshine hitting the ground through the leaves? That’s what this song sounds and feels like. Think I’m crazy? Just take a listen and try to tell me that I’m wrong.
