Happy Thusday! It’s going to be a good day. I know it’s not as sunny as it was yesterday but there’s something cozy about the cloudy sky and threat of storms that has me in a good mood (I know, weird, but that’s okay). We have a lot to go through today music wise so let’s start off with debuting “Push n’ Pull”– a new song from Los Angeles, California-based Derek Day.

Derek Day has done a lot throughout his musical career. He started busking on the streets of Santa Monica at the age of 13 but quickly grew from there. Derek became the frontman for Classless Act whose debut album featured collabations with everyone from Justin Hawkins (The Darkness) to Vince Neil (Motley Crue). It was a whirlwind after that and Derek went on tour with a list as just impressive as the collaboration list including Joan Jett and Posion but that was not enough for Derek. Derek went back to the studio after all of this to record his new album ‘I Can’t Imagine’ which is due out on August 22nd via Label 51 Recordings. “Push n’ Pull” is one of the singles from this album.

“Push n’ Pull” is a swagger-filled rock anthem. It’s definitely not the typicaly metal or punk drenched sound that I typically look for but it had me hooked all the same. There’s a retro hue that is cast over this song but a brightness to Derek’s voice that gives this song an almost pop quality. These two contrasting ideas and thoughts come together so perfectly with Derek’s infectious energy and flawless tone. On top of all of this is the amazing message behind this song but I feel like Derek’s words explain the mood and energy of this song so much better than mine ever would so here’s what Derek had to say:

“Amidst the throes of the 2020 pandemic, one can learn a lot about themselves… But even more so about the ones closest to them. This song came to fruition after a scream fight with an old friend over the politics, morale and current state of things on planet Earth (at that time ). Five years later, things have only gotten more chaotic and confusing. So I preach, yet again , to stay true to your post in belief and self-love when the Devil decides to blow things out of proportion. For life, though riddled with adversity and shock-testing, isn’t meant for pettifogging over what others think. It’s meant for LIVING.”

Everything about this song is perfect. Everything about Derek Day is perfect. Make sure to give this a listen and mark August 22nd down on your calendar so you don’t miss the release of the entire album.
