We’ve made it to lunchtime on a Friday. That means it’s time to celebrate and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than to debut The Revelator’s first music video, “Sunbeam.” (Mad props to cinematographer Nick Vaughn for this little slice of heavenly goodness!)

The first thing that struck me about this video and song was the brightness. The brightness in the video is obvious with the bright yellow images that kick things off but I loved how the music of this song matched that. “Sunbeam” feel like, well, a “Sunbeam.” Although there’s no denying that there’s a sense of depth behind this song, at face value, it sounds like just a super bright and sunny track that is so perfect for a day of sitting on a patio and just daydreaming. There’s a lushness behind this song that gives the track an almost larger-than-life kind of vibe, but again, just the overall chillness of this video keeps it feeling so calm. As the video moves on, things start happening. There’s more movement, more colors, and more smiles. It’s a throwback to the days of flower power but with a modern twist.

Before I let you check out this amazing song and video, let me share these words directly from The Revelator:

“What if summer was a drug you could take? That’s the idea that inspired this psychedelic journey of a music video. While making this video we filmed on super 8, hand drew animations, created a commune on location in a sunflower field, filmed with vintage Russian lenses, and got kicked out of a meadow in Golden Gate Park because our film shoot disturbed the parents of a nearby four-year-old’s birthday party.

“Sunbeam” is a summer dream of old San Francisco inspired by the hippie love-ins of the 1960s and the notion that love & friendship could be an act of political resistance. Come along with us, you miss 100% of the trips you don’t take.”
