Today is one of those days that seems to be moving at a snail’s pace while flying by at the same time. It has me in a mood. It’s a motivated mood where I feel like I’m getting so much done, but also a mood where I’m debating taking a half day because I feel like it’s just never going to end. It’s a weird one, and I need to snap out of it, so let’s take a breather and check out “Jeff’s Best Friend” from Stoke Signals.
I find it very hard to believe that Stoke Signals just played their first show together in January 2024, but I am not surprised that they, as the band puts it, “blew everyone’s fucking minds” at that show. Their sound is tight and intense and is perfectly showcased in “Jeff’s Best Friend”. This song is very gritty and has an almost Iron Chic meets Banner Pilot meets a slight Dillinger Four bounciness. If you know those names, you know they are names that are larger-than-life in a certain scene, so that should go to show you just how amazing this song is. At just under three minutes, this song moved fast and left me wanting so much more. If you are in the same boat, I highly suggest you check out their debut LP, ‘Make Dying Fun.’ This song is just a small snapshot of what they have to offer on the album. Stoke Signals has been playing around Southern California, which I know is far from Minneapolis, but I really hope this band makes a trek up here soon because they would fit into the local punk scene so freaking well.
