Loss comes in a lot of different forms and ways. Maybe it’s the physical loss of someone or something. Maybe it’s more of the mental struggle coming to terms with something that you’ve forgotten. Either way, loss is a complex feeling that is hard to sort through, but Norwind’s new track “Not In Service” helps ever so slightly.
Like the feeling of loss, “Not In Service” is a bit all over the place. The song moves seamlessly through feelings of reflective moodiness and more aggressive moments. Although the changes are stark, the way they blend together is absolutely genius. You can hear this within the first minute of the track. Another thing you hear is the pure musicianship of this band. From the silky smooth vocals to the powerful yet intricate instrumentation, it doesn’t take long to catch onto the fact that Norwind is a band that means business. Norwind’s goal as a band is to make you feel something. From nostalgia to excitement to sadness and all the way to frustration, I love how Norwind, and “Not In Service” in particular, feels like such a cathartic release of everything.
