The weather finally cracked here in Minneapolis. Instead of unseasonably warm temperatures that call for a cold drink and a hot patio, we are now in the shockingly chilly part of fall where, although it’s really not that cold out, it feels bitter against the sun that was just burning my ginger skin. It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to just curl up at home with a fall candle and light up ghosts shining on your mantle. Okay, maybe I’m going a little basic on you (and I’m not sorry for it), but long story short, today is one of those days where I would just so much rather be anywhere except my office, but here we are and I’m just trying to make the best of it by checking out new music like “Some Control” from Kill the Druid.

The piano slide at the beginning of this song is the first thing that caught me. You all know I’m a sucker for piano, so, naturally, a slide like that will be all that it takes to grab me, but I stayed for so much more than just that one little part. This song is dramatic and oh so very perfect. It definitely has a musical theater kind of vibe to it, but I feel like it leans more into something like Will Wood & The Tapeworms, where it focuses more on the quirky than the classical. It has a little Panic at the Disco kind of haunt behind it, making “Some Control” a perfect song for spooky season on top of everything else that it is. I’ll be the first to admit that “Some Control” from Kill the Druid won’t be for everyone but, if you’re an ex-theatre kid like me who never quite shook the addiction, you will surely fall head over heels in love with “Some Control.”
