What do you do when Panic Sets In? Don’t sit there and tell me that you have never felt a sense of panic. We all have, and some of us feel it a bit more often than others (I am one of those people). So what do you do? What do you do when you begin to feel short of breath and you can feel your head spiraling out of control? When you get hit with a wave of emotion that is seriously too much to take, and you don’t see a way out of the darkness? I ask again, what do you do when Panic Sets In? My coping skill is checking out new music, and although I’m not feeling panicked right now, it’s just a matter of time, so let’s check out “Falling Backwards” from, you guessed it, Panic Sets In.
Okay, terrible intro, I know, but please don’t let that little slice of cheese stop you from checking out this song and band. Panic Sets In is an original pop-punk band from Philadelphia that definitely takes a nod to the way of nostalgia while adding their own twist. I’ll be honest, the first thing that caught me about this song wasn’t the music, it was the music video. It’s simple enough: two people struggling to keep their heads above water during what seems to be a thrashing storm, and just one life ring floating between them. That scene is split with footage of Panic Sets In performing in front of a glittery blue background with motion in it that kind of feels like the ocean. Why am I telling you so much about this video rather than this pop-punk perfect track? Because, honestly, the video tells the story so perfectly. It’s a little standard– the whole drowning in your own thoughts, drowning in panic, but there’s something so powerful about the way the visuals hit in the song, and when added with the sheer power of Panic Sets In, there’s just something so perfect about it all. Is there a happy ending to this song and video? Come on now, I’m not going to tell you. You’ll have to check it all out for yourself, but I will say that the next time I feel like I’m drowning or starting to feel the panic sinking in, I will absolutely be blaring “Falling Backwards” to keep me from getting too dark and gloomy about things.
