I don’t usually just jump right into a song when it comes to these posts. I typically start with some slice of cheese about how my day is going or what’s going on around me, but “Train Wreck” from Brutalligators has left me no choice but to jump right in.

“My life’s a punchline that I didn’t get – just keep on laughing and it might make sense in the end.” That’s the opening line of this song, and, yeah, it hit me straight to my core. Before that even happened in this track, I was hopelessly hooked on Brutalligators and their overall vibe. The beginning is smooth and soft, but with a definite DIY punk element to it. As the song moves on, you get a perfect dose of grit and emotion that will surely stay with you throughout the day. Although I picked the first line out as one to really highlight, there are many more lines like that throughout this nearly four-minute-long song that seemed to be written just for me. Okay, I obviously know that’s not true, but I liked how relatable the words were throughout this song. Beyond that are the mood swings that seem to plague this track. Although they are fairly subtle, you can feel waves of emotion crash and churn throughout this song, just adding to the raw relatability of it. “Train Wreck” is the final single to be released before Brutalligators drops ‘Still Here’, their new album due out on November 21st via Fika Recordings. Don’t worry, I have an alarm set so I don’t miss it, and so I can remind you all that this is a band that is worthy of your attention.
