I have your attention, don’t I? Was it the fact that it took three different acts to come up with this song, or maybe it was the song title that caught you? Either way, I’m happy you’re here because this song is one that absolutely deserves your attention and love.
“Flora the Fragrant Ferret” is off the rock/jazz opera, ‘The Whistlewood Ball – Bedtime Stories of Song, Secrets and Sprouts (and Beyonce).’ The song is by The Guru Guru, but this Belgian band enlisted the help of composer Lennert Baerts and Muze Jazz Orchestra to really bring this track to life. I feel like it’s almost repetitive to say this after mentioning that this track is part of a rock/jazz opera, but this song is full of drama. It doesn’t read like a standard song when it comes to composition; it definitely reads like an epic tale. Honestly, it reminds me a bit of The Dear Hunter and their approach to music, but there’s a flair that you get from this song that you don’t get from The Dear Hunter. There’s just a bit more focus on the classical aspect of things, and I feel that, although classical is definitely not my jam, this is what really caught my ear. Whether you’re looking for something completely new or something that makes you think and drifts you off to a faraway land, (as the story goes, ‘Flora lives at the edge of the forest, near the abandoned mines and the ruins of Old-New Zacharillo. The smell around her home has always made her believe she is the problem, that she’s too fragrant, too much, too weird to be around others.’) “Flora the Fragrant Ferret is such an epic track, and I highly suggest that, after checking out this song, you check out the opera in its entirety.
