Typically, Fridays in the summer are dead at my day job. Today is apparently not a typical Friday. Just my luck, too, because I covered two shows last night, meaning writing and publishing my articles took double the time it usually does. Long story short, I’ve fallen way behind and have not gotten nearly as much done this morning as I had hoped for, but I’m just trucking along and in need of some songs to help keep me out of my own head and allow me to keep trucking along, so let’s dive into “Ready! Steady! Go!” from Perennial.
This song is a track from Perennial’s upcoming album ‘Modernism,’ which will be out on September 18th via Ernest Jennings Record Co. It’s a sharp, quick, and punchy two-minute anthem that is the exact energy I needed to help keep me going today. Right off the bat, the energy of this song reminded me of something between Le Tigre and The Blood Brothers but there is also this vintage hue to the track that a bit of a MC5 or The Who kind of vibe. It’s a very fresh sound with a familiar feeling and an energy that will surely light a fire under your ass, no matter how tired, stressed, or burnt out you are. Don’t analyze this song; just enjoy it, and make sure to set an alarm for September 18th — when the full album comes out.
