Do I even need to say what drew me to this band and this song? Obviously, it’s the band name. I am the queen of chronic fatigue. I know that I do it to myself but there’s just so much live music to catch and I want to catch it all. That being said, this blog doesn’t pay the bills, so I have to hold down a full-time day job while doing so. My nights are long, my mornings are early, and the space between is plagued by moments when just keeping my eyes open is a task, but I wouldn’t trade any of it for anything else. This is what living the dream looks like for me. This has nothing to do with “Steroids” from Chronic Fatigue, but again, the band name intrigued me, and this song had me in love.
“Steroids” is an angsty and gritty song that bridges the gap between post-punk and rap in such a flawless way. It’s a punk anthem with a beat that instantly controls your heart and mind and puts Chronic Fatigue in a league all of their own. At times, this song feels a bit like IDLES or Fontaines D.C., but then the band hits you with an insane guitar solo that throws it back to a different vintage before moving into a breakdown of sorts that seems to feel a bit like Death Grips, with the heavy beat and the intensity that joins it. Long story short, “Steroids” and Chronic Fatigue in general are all over the place, but every place this band and song takes you is a place that you won’t want to leave.
