We’re almost at the weekend, and honestly, it couldn’t come soon enough. I’m not even tired, just burnt out on the week. I feel like this happens every year around this time. You are in a bit of a limbo between summer festivities and the holiday season, and things seem to drag on while also speeding by all at the same time. It puts me (and maybe you) in a weird headspace where it’s hard to concentrate, but you also know you should be getting a lot done. Today is one of those days where I want to do anything but work. So far, I’ve bought a new coffee mug, wiped down my desk, and cleaned out my purse. I’m all over the place, but I need to lock it in and get some work done. This has nothing to do with “Last Of The Poets” from The Marra.
Things are moving fast for this band, but one listen to “Last Of The Poets,” and you’ll understand why. This five-piece, Derry-based band has a super cool sound. It has a little flavor of a retro, Libertines-esque sound, but with an energy that seems to mirror a Fontaines D.C.-like vibe. “Last Of The Poets” is a bright song that will definitely make you want to dance, but The Marra will also make you feel the emotion they put into it. Inspired by The Pogues frontman Shane McGowan, “Last Of The Poets” is “A romantic song about the death of the idea of rock stars,” explains lead guitarist Matthew Crossan. “Everyone’s life is filmed and documented. You see fewer characters now. Social media has connected the world, but it’s made it feel smaller and more isolated.” Seriously, spend some time with this song and this band today. I promise it won’t be a waste of time.
