I spend a lot of time in the local music scene. It’s my bread and butter and where I feel at home, but truthfully, the local scene here in the Twin Cities is just so big that I can’t catch everyone. FarFarAway is one of the many bands that I just have not been able to catch live yet, but after hearing “Flash Bomb”, I know that’s something that I need to change immediately.
FarFarAway instantly hits you with a wave of angst when it comes to this fast and furious track. It’s very much pop-punk but it very much has a lean into the grittier side of the genre. Truthfully, this is your typical pop-punk song about feeling a bit anxious about the future. As the band puts it, this song tells the story of being “Caught between the past and an uncertain future. Despite wanting to leave town and find “forever,” they remain stuck in place, existing “between the cracks” as social structures collapse.” I feel like I can really relate to this because I live in the same town as these guys and am going through a lot of the same things but I also feel like, even if you don’t live here in the beautiful Twin Cities, you’ll find this song as relatable as you’ll find it enjoyable.
