Girl at the Rock Shows

Happy Thursday, everyone! Today is going to be a good day. As all the kids are saying these days, manifest, manifest, manifest. But no, really, it is going to be a good day. The sun is shining, I’m heading to Chicago tomorrow to go see Thrice, and I have “$5 Cover” from A Very Special Episode blaring from my computer speakers.

Although I thought I was in the mood for some pop-punk perfection, the grungy alt-rock vibe of “$5 Cover” instantly hit the spot and gave me what I wanted. There’s an undeniable sense of attitude and power that comes through in the vocals throughout this track but also something very organic about the presentation of it all. Although you get that staggering power, you also get a feeling that it wasn’t forced and the intense emotions that come through with every word are just the way they should be. Beyond the powerful vocals is the steady yet just as impressive instrumentation. There are moments where the instrumentation gives this track an almost Strokes or Queens of the Stone Age vibe but others where it’s a bit more almost punk and metal in a way. What I’m trying to say is this song has power, grit, and attitude which makes it perfect for a Thursday morning so check it out and show A Very Special Episode some love!
