A song about a woman who loves taxidermy and preserving dead butterflies in glass cases? Obviously I was instantly sold when I read that description of “Dead Sleephead” from Harvey Drive.
Given that description, I was expecting something a bit eerie and dark but, instead, got something a bit more pop-punk a la PUP and Hot Mulligan. That’s not at all a bad thing and I instantly loved the overall style of this song but it definitely was not what I was expecting. I got something almost playful and whimsical from this song which, when mixed with the lyrics, led to a super unique and fun listen. Harvey Drive is based out of Long Beach, California and this is their first single which just came out last month. Because of this, I have a feeling that it may be a bit before I get to see this band live but this song begs to be seen at a dive bar so, until I get that chance, I guess I will just have to listen to “Dead Sleepyhead” constantly as if pretending to be at a Harvey Drive show.
