I will always be drawn to bands with creative names. Although just switching certain letters and syllables in two words to create new words isn’t super creative, it catches me every time. Here is where I was going to list some of those examples but, of course, I can’t think of them right now. I promise they are out there and I am thrilled to add Jerk Beefy to the list.
“Overdoes” from Jerk Beefy caught my attention almost as quickly as the name did. Overall, this is an anthemic pop-punk track with alt-rock vibes but what really caught me was the darkness that comes through in this song. Don’t get me wrong, this song is infectious when it comes to the standard pop-punk beat and structure of the track but there’s just something a bit more tender and dark about the vocals that keeps this from becoming just another cliché track. There’s definitely something nostalgic about this track but the nostalgic only comes in waves as Jerk Beefy definitely adds their own twist to the classic style. Although there are many epic parts throughout this three and a half minute long song, the last chorus hits super hard so make sure to listen to the end so you get the full effect of this amazing track.
