This Modern – “1980s” - Girl at the Rock Shows

I was barely alive in the 1980s. I am definitely a 90’s girl through and through but that didn’t stop me from turning up the volume and enjoying the crap out of “1980s” from This Modern.

Really, the song title “1980s” seems to have very little to do with this first single from This Modern’s upcoming ‘Wasted Silence’. Sure, there’s a reference to the decade in the lyrics but, overall, this song has a much more modern take on the pop-punk style. Think a little MGK but with a little more heart in it. This song is super free and fresh feeling. It’s infectious beat mixed with pop-drenched vocals creates a song that makes it perfect for a drive down the road with the sun shining and your windows down. Lyrically, this song is a wee bit cheesy and just a bit predictable but that doesn’t keep the song from being fun. Honestly, it gives you a slight sense of innocence and teenage love in a way that I think we could all use a little bit more of.
