There was a day when I worshipped Norma Jean. I loved the intensity of the band and felt like they could do no wrong. Things have changed and my musical taste, like my life, has taken many twists and turns since the days where I blared Norma Jean in my 2001 Kia Rio while driving to and from high school. Honestly, it has been years since I thought about that band but hearing Cory Brandan of Norma Jean alongside carriedawaybyowls for their song “Doomsday Bride” has sparked that love inside of me all over again.
The first single off of an upcoming EP from carriedawaybyowls, “Doomsday Bride” has the amount of intensity that you would expect from Cory but with a twist that can only be considered to be carriedawaybyowls. Although absolutely intense and in your face, there’s a sense of restraint felt throughout this song that really caught me. The post-hardcore vibe is real throughout this song and the band truly shows a sense of creativity when it comes to the overall composition of “Doomsday Bride”. The vocals are definitely a highlight of this song but, when you listen to it as a whole, the vocals would be nothing without the technical and well-thought out instrumentation behind them.
