What makes a song a “barn-burner”? What even is a “barn-burner”? That was one of the phrases used when I was pitch “I’m So Wet” from Strawberry Moon. I read those phrase over and over again just trying to prepare myself for what that may mean but, in reality, there was nothing to prepare me for the magical “barn-burner” that is this track.
The energy and swagger of Strawberry Moon hits you almost instantly with this song. Although there’s something slightly reserved about this track and the way the composition has breaks almost constantly throughout this nearly three minute song, there’s also something highly energetic about and it, quite frankly, “barn-burner” worthy. It’s brash and fast with a level of spice and angst that can not be ignored. I’m not typically one for fuzzy music but I loved what the slight fuzz brought to this song. Another thing I love is the groove. You get the groove in the swagger and angst of the vocals but also in the garage-rock inspired instrumentation that feels raw and sweaty yet oh so very perfect.
I still don’t know that I know exactly what a “barn-burner” is but I know that “I’m So Wet” from Strawberry Moon is one and it’s absolutely perfect and more than worthy of your attention today.
