I’m super excited for the When We Were Young Festival this coming weekend in Las Vegas. I am going to see many nostalgic acts that are sure to get me all deep in my feelings while being with some pretty dang amazing friends. It’s one of those things that I would never not go to because of the vibes but, honestly, it was hard to get on board for it this year. That’s because of all of the amazing shows I will be missing in town like Seaside Tryst at Zhora Darling this coming Sunday. Although bummed, I figured maybe talking to the band a bit would help lessen the blow of the fact that I can’t be at their show. Although I was super wrong on that and asking them questions only made it harder for me to miss it, it was super fun to get to know this band a wee bit better through random questions.

Ya’ll start your tour this Thursday! What are you doing to get prepared? Are you even packed yet?
Some of us are already in the midwest at the time of sending! Frankie is visiting fam and Avery is nearby for a work thing. We figured, since we’re here, why not give the good people of the midwest a little thrill?

Who in the band will bring the most stuff and completely overpack?
Avery looked like a pack mule carrying the guitar, our “magic box” that brings all the synths and samplers together, and a decent amount of merch (please buy shirts so I don’t have to sweat so much at the airport). Frankie will have the best outfits.

What will be everyone’s role on the tour?
We all have different sleep patterns and Avery is both a night owl and early riser so he gets to annoy everyone! Everyone drives except Jesse because they don’t issue driver licenses to drummers in Seattle which is a completely reasonable law to have on the books.

This is a quick little jaunt through the Midwest containing dates in MN, WI, and IL. Which city are you most excited to stop in and why is it Minneapolis?
Avery is stoked about Minneapolis because Frankie’s brother is coming to that one! We also met the super cool booker of Zhora Darling this year playing South Sound Block Party and wanna check out her digs. Maybe jump in Lake Minnetonka before we jet back to Seattle. Either way, you’ll find Avery on Scruff in all cities.

Can we expect any surprises at your show at Zhora Darling on Sunday, October 20th?
The faggotry itself wont be a surprise for faithful Trystians however the amount of joy it will fill you with might take you by surprise.

I know that you have your newest album, ‘Different Places’ out there but can we expect to hear some oldies as well?
We have a spooky throwback that we’ve yet to outgrow – its called Ghoulfriend and its about gender-neutral love in the afterlife and its from our first EP.

What is your favorite song to play live and why?
Avery loves playing Teresa because the guitar riffs are sorta hard to play and the lyrics are ridiculous at surface level, but its secretly one of our saddest songs. A ripper! But a heart ripper!

What kind of food will be sustaining you on this tour?
We usually let Ryan pick the food but when we’re on the road, gas station corndogs and red bull. The vegetarians in the band will settle for gas station pickles.

I know this is just a short tour but can we expect a return visit from you in the near future?
In honor of our Chicago date, “When you’re good to Mama, Mama’s good to you” – come on our to a show and tell us you love us by dancing. Also Mama is a trans guy.

Where can people connect with you to either get details on your upcoming shows, music, or to just support you?
We love meeting people who vibe with our music at our shows. You can get merch and physical music from our Bandcamp (seasidetryst.bandcamp.com) but also just telling your friends about us or adding our songs to your social posts is so awesome and helpful!

Like I said, getting to know the members of this band a bit more through this interview only makes it harder for me to miss their show this coming Sunday at Zhora Darling so please do me a favor– Please go to the show, buy up all of their merch, bring them hugs, and have the time of your lives dancing to the magic goodness that is Seaside Tryst.
