Girl at the Rock Shows

Much like how I have no clue where the weekend went, I have no clue where today is going. Time is speeding by and my to-do list keeps piling up but all of the amazing new music I have to check out today is helping me not get overwhelmed or feeling that oh-so-familiar feeling of drowning. Case in point – “Fixed Taunt” from Pets.

Austin, Texas- based Pets has a super unique yet approachable sound. It’s dreamy and has an almost ambient-leaning influence behind it but has a driving force of dissonance and energy behind it. Not quite sure what I’m trying to explain? One listen to their song “Fixed Taunt” will help clear it all up. The rich textures of this song act as a comforting blanket that surrounds you while their creative compositions and the almost clashing sounds of guitar tones and vocals keep you engaged and wondering what comes next. There are times in this song where it reminded me a bit of a standard indie-rock song in the style of Wallows or something like that but there are other parts of this nearly four-minute long song that left me with no comparisons to make. Whether you can make sense and relate to this track or not, it will surely catch you and make you question everything you know about indie-rock (with post-punk tendencies) music while giving you a sound that will leave you wanting so much more from Pets.
