It was damn near 80 degrees outside on Tuesday here in Minneapolis. When I woke up this morning, it was still over 70. Now, at around 1 PM in the afternoon on Wednesday, it’s closer to 50. Don’t get me wrong, I love the cold but I was not ready for it and now, as I sit her shivering at work, I can’t help but long for my cozy house with some candles going and the heat on. I’m not there quite yet and still have a few more hours of work left but, thankfully for me, I have some cozy and amazing songs to help keep my mind occupied through the shivers including “Down” from MRS.
“Down” is one of the two songs that Sacramento-based MRS did for the “Vs” split EP with Shop Dog from Fresno. This song is tender and is peaceful but there’s this slight sense of severity at the same time which I found a bit intriguing and oh so tragically beautiful. The blend of post-hardcore elements with shoegazey tones is something that MRS does oh so very well and is one of the many things that makes them stand out. This is one of those songs that I have so much love for and really feel like it hit me hard but, when it comes to reviewing it with words, I feel beyond lost. “Down” is a powerful piece of art that has to be heard so stop reading my ramblings and just go take a listen.
