Silverstein is a band that does not need my press. I saw them absolutely kill their performance at When We Were Young just last month in Las Vegas and the crowd was enormous. That being said, their new single “Confession” recently came across my desk and it’s honestly just too good to not share with you all.

If you grew up in the emo and pop-punk scene of the early 2000’s you know Silverstein but put everything you think you know about this band into the trash (okay, don’t do that because their old music is brilliant but, you get what I’m saying). “Confession” shows the growth of this band. Although it definitely has the band’s signatures like powerful guitars and emotion-drenched vocals, there’s something a bit more mature and just a bit deeper about this song in general when compared to their old tracks. Sure, I’ll go ahead and say it, “Confession” almost feels soft compared to Silverstein’s older material but, as someone who has grown up with this band and is facing new obstacles when it comes to life and new realities as I try and grapple with the fact that I’m not just an angsty teenager anymore (it’s been decades since I was that but I feel like it just wasn’t a phase), it’s nice to have a familiar voice to help guide you through uncharted waters. All of that is dramatic, I know, but there’s something about Silverstein that always gets me in the feels and “Confession” is no different.
