Girl at the Rock Shows

My day is still going swimmingly. Knock on wood but I’ve been able to keep up on emails over the past hour or so which, for me, is a huge deal. I feel like this calls for a celebration and the best way to celebrate is by checking out some new music from a tried and true band. We Demand Parachutes is absolutely a tried and true band. I’ve been following them for years and the onslaught on new material from them, including “It’s Been A Year”, has me feeling so happy.

I think that we can all agree that it has, in fact, “Been A Year” and I love how We Demand Parachutes somehow puts that feeling into this quick but powerful track. At only two and a half minutes long, my biggest complaint about this song is how short it is. That being said, I love how this band is able to tell a full story within the short time. This song is actually a dedication to the troops and armed forces that return home with struggles that the majority of us will never know. Although I can’t relate to that, I can relate to the slight feeling of defeat that turns into a blast of resilience at the end of this track. It’s a rollercoaster ride, just like this year has been, but “It’s Been A Year” is a beautiful journey that is absolutely worth every second of the two and a half minutes that it lasts.
