Girl at the Rock Shows

It’s kind of crazy how perfectly the song titles of today’s songs are lining up with my current mental state, mood, and status. It’s been “Mind Over Matter” as I try to get lost in my “Daydream Romantic” state because I have “No Time To Dread” and I am not “Giving Up” because I’m sick. Okay, terrible run on sentence, but, really, it’s pretty crazy how perfectly all of these song titles are fitting with my day.

Out of all of the singles I’ve shouted out today, “Giving Up” from Running Still is the only one that came to me without any background information but, with a song like this, I really don’t need any background. This song is twinkly and sparkly but has a raw sense of emotion that comes through so perfectly in the vocals. I would call this an emo track but I feel like just calling “Giving Up” an emo song doesn’t do it justice. There’s a hint of Midwest Emo in there but also something a bit more powerful in the vein of nostalgic pop punk anthems. There’s also a laid back approach to the tempo of this song that gives it an almost more standard alt-rock vibe. I don’t care what you call this song, the ups and downs of volume, power, and emotion that highlight this song are truly stunning and it will surely leave you wanting more from Running Still.
