Every once in awhile, you just need one of those songs that takes you away from your desk and into a bit of a disco. Today is one of those days where that’s all I want. I want to escape from the office and find myself at a 70s-style disco party full of glitter, rollerskates, big hair, and bigger smiles. That’s not possible but if I close my eyes while listening to “Electric City” from Buddy Wynkoop, I can at least daydream about it if only for a couple of minutes.

“Electric City” is a single off of Buddy Wynkoop’s upcoming debut LP ‘Better Than Botox’. Although I have never had botox, I think I can go ahead and back the title of this album solely based on the amount of fun that this single brings to the table. It’s quirky and, although not quite the disco anthem I had in mind when I saw the simplistic yet eye-catching artwork but that didn’t stop me from getting lost in this track for a couple of minutes. It’s a cool blend of instrumental jangle with spoken word feeling vocals that sometimes switch into a perfectly ear-wormy chorus full of this odd sense of aggressive energy but it’s fun, not aggressive. There’s a vintage hue to this track that I really liked but it’s also clearly a modern take on a more indie dance sound. Overall, “Electric City” by Buddy Wynkoop left me slightly confused but absolutely ready to strap on my dancing shoes and ready to start my own “Electric City” disco in my office.
