My introduction to Buddy Wynkoop was nothing short of a part. I still go back to their track “Electric City” every time I need a little pick-me-up. I was so excited to see Buddy Wynkoop’s name come across my desk yet again and was hopeful that their new song, “9-5 Disease” may act as the same kind of pick-me-up because Lord knows I need one today.
As you may have guessed, “9-5 Disease” is about a day job. Although it talks about the frustration that comes from said job and I can’t quite relate to that as I thoroughly enjoy my day job for the most part, it’s a fun and quirky song that acts as a great break from the mundane. Part of Buddy Wynkoop’s upcoming ‘Better Than Botox’ album (due out March 16th), this song channels a very DEVO vibe to it. Has an almost 80s feeling with the strict rhythmic patterns throughout the song but there’s also something almost noise-forward about some of the tones that happen throughout this song. I love how minimalistic it is upon first listen but how, every time you hear this song, you pick up on something new, showing you the true strength of depth that is Buddy Wynkoop.
