I was out almost all of yesterday due to being sick. I hated it. I had grandiose plans of getting caught up on album and song reviews but, instead, ended up not moving much from the couch and sleeping the day away. Although I’m still not feeling 100%, I’m not letting another day slip by and, instead, plan on distracting myself from my super scratchy throat and nasty cough by checking out new music, so let’s just jump into it, shall we?
You know that I’m not one for cover songs, but every once in a while, one will grab me and refuse to let me go. That’s what happened the first time I heard Pinghost’s cover of “Bad Buy” from Billie Eilish. Full disclosure, I love the original song here so I honestly hated the fact that someone was covering what I thought was already a flawless song but Pinghost does such a good job bringing this song into a whole new dimension. Although Pinghost maintains this song’s iconic elements, they bring a sense of intensity as if they are playing off of the breakdown that happens at the end of Billie’s version. It’s an extraordinary interpretation that seems to bring this song full circle. Add the cleanliness that Pinghost can bring to a song, and you will be left with a truly stunning and intense cover that will have you wondering if this is, in fact, better than the original.
