Happy Monday, everyone! It’s a slow-moving Monday morning for me. I was out at the show too late on Sunday night, and editing photos took forever, so I’m running on fumes at this point and grasping at straws as far as where to get bursts of energy from. Usually, checking out new music helps out, so let’s just jump right into it today, starting with “Candles on the Water” from Moon Landscape.
“Candles on the Water” is very much unlike many of the songs I share but I love the drama behind this song. It’s giving me The Dear Hunter vibes with the emotional waves that come through the bursts of rage and drama that highlight this song. It may start off a bit slow, but within this four-minute-and-twenty-second song, you are taken on a true rollercoaster ride, making it the perfect pick-me-up on a Monday morning. The story behind the lyrics of this song follows the severe ups and downs of the instrumentation. It’s a song about a child grappling with childhood trauma. You can feel his world turn to gray as said child loses a sense of innocence. I wish I could tell you that this story has a happy ending, but by the end of this track, that despair and depression seem to turn into angst and anger. It’s a beautiful statement piece with a sense of heaviness behind it and a sense of beauty that can not be ignored.
