Now that I’m starting to get into the swing of today, I’m noticing that my cats must have had a busy night. My back is burning, and my arms are scratched. I want to think they are “snuggle scratches,” but, in reality, I know that they were surely fighting or trying to get my attention. I slept through it all, but now I have these nice claw marks everywhere. This has nothing to with “Vignette” from Hidden Youth, but don’t let that stop you from checking out this new track from this amazing Leeds-based band.
“Vignette” is the debut single from Hidden Youth, and it has me absolutely thrilled to see what comes back for this band. Their sound is nostalgic with a very 90s and early 2000s edge to it, but that’s just it– there’s an edge to it. It’s very much melodic punk rock but with nods to something a bit more post-hardcore. It reminds me a bit of Jawbreaker but with something a bit more alt-rock leaning to it. At the same time, I feel like the vocals pack a more brutal punch than other bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, which came to mind while listening through this song for the first time. Whether you want something slightly nostalgic or something to just light a bit of a fire under your butt, “Vignette” from Hidden Youth is the track for you.
