Girl at the Rock Shows

I’m jonesing for a show right now. I only took one night off from shows due to the weather and roads but I feel like it’s been ages since my last show. Yes, I’m aware that I have a problem and this is definitely a severe addiction at this point but, let’s be honest, there are worse things to be addicted to. Fortunately, I have a banger of a show lined up for tonight. Unfortunately, that’s still hours away. I’m hoping that checking out new music like “Manus” from Dropbear Lodge will satisfy my craving.

“Manus” is one of the tracks from Dropbear Lodge’s new album ‘Vicious Twee’ (which is out now!). There’s an avant-garde, almost experimental element to some of the instrumentation in this song. It’s jazzy, it’s glitchy, it’s all over the place as far as the rhythms go, but it’s also absolutely perfect. I’ll be honest: I was a bit lost the first time I listened to this seven-and-a-half minute song. I didn’t know how to follow it or where to tap my toes, but now that I’m on the fourth listen, I can’t help but be completely lost and dazzled by the sheer musicality and talent showcased in this track. There are no words here but that just adds to the charm of the track. I know, that’s a weird thing for a lyrics lady like myself to say but this is truly a “choose your own adventure” kind of track. You can follow the chaotic sax, you can follow the drums or some other line of instrumentation, and then cater your homemade words to the song to fit the mood you feel while following the twisting and winding trails of the instruments. Seem like too much work? No worries, “Manus” is one of those songs that can help you drift off in such a perfect way.
