Did ya’ll have a good St. Patrick’s Day? I did because I didn’t go out. It’s weird but, when you go out almost every night, the holidays are a good time to just stay in and avoid the crowds so, instead of going out and drinking green beer, I had a night in with a lovely dinner, the boyfriend, the clowder of cats I now have, and a new TV show to get addicted to. Should I have spent the rare night off getting caught up on work? Probably, but what’s the fun in that? Instead of beating myself up for the lazy night last night, let’s buckle up and get some stuff done today, shall we?
I instantly fell head over hells in love with the energy that comes from “Keep it Real” from Hellmo. This is a skate punk anthem through and through. It fit in perfectly with the FIDLAR binge I am currently on. It’s raw and sounds like a skatepark in the 2000s. I know that’s not a “real” sound but, just one listen to this dynamic track and I think you’ll get what I’m saying. “Keep it Real” starts slow and steady– almost tender– before the song jumps into the skate punk vein of things. That’s one of the many reasons I love it so much. Although definitely skate punk overall, Hellmo isn’t afraid to put dynamics into this track and almost a little Weezer-esque surf punk influence here and there. It’s a fun song that’s both chill and full of life all at the same time making it the perfect song to kick your Tuesday off with.
