I feel like I’ve been seeing RAT BATH’s name around town a lot. I’m not sure if that’s for a real or if I’ve just been imaging it because I absolutely adore their song “Don’t Look In That Mirror Too Long, Honey, You Might Not Like What You See” so much but, regardless, I feel like RAT BATH is buzzing right now so I figured now is as good of a time as any to see what they are all about.

“Don’t Look In That Mirror Too Long, Honey, You Might Not Like What You See” is actually an MCR reference which, obviously, had me sold instantly but don’t be mistaken, this song is nothing like MCR. This thrashy and angsty anthem is full of grit and spice. It’s a song about not fitting the boxes that were assigned to you and taking time to explore everything from gender expression to urban legends. This song is as chaotic as that quick synopsis which makes it so perfect but, the real cherry on top, is the delivery. This fast moving song is absolutely abrasive and in your face but there are dynamics sprinkled through the track that really helps you understand the meaning of the song and the angst. It’s chaotic but it’s perfectly curated chaos in a way that only RAT BATH can pull off. It’s absolutely perfect and, whether or not I have really been seeing their name around town more often, I hope that they make a stop in the Twin cities soon because I absolutely need to see this band live.
