Fridays are always a bit ADHD for me when it comes to music. I want to get work done so I like songs that just flutter in the background but, at the same time, I want to party because I’ve made it through another week so I like nostalgic bops that make me want to dance. I find myself constantly switching between worlds when it comes to my playlists on Fridays but I finally found the perfect balance between both of these worlds in “Woman Gone Made” from Iluka.
This song is definitely a bit different than what I typically share out with you as it’s very pop based but there’s an edge to it that will keep it from feeling like a complete shock to the system. At the beginning, the vocals have a slight Tones & I tone to it but, as the track moves on, Iluka’s sound moves to a bit dirtier and grittier tone reminding me of acts like K. Flay and Morgan Wade. Regardless of the tone of her vocals, every word of this stunning three-minute track comes dripping in swagger and fire, which is mirrored in the almost stomp-and-clap style of the instrumentation. Overall, this song feels a bit minimalistic when you compare it to my normal shares but the message behind this track and the beauty is deafening.
