I don’t really have much to say this morning. It’s Tuesday, I’m tired and just hoping that checking out some new music can help spark a bit of a fire under my butt to get things done today– you know the drill. That being said, do not let my lack of a quirky intro stop you from checking out “Pretend” from Astro Brat because this song is amazing through and through.
Stylistically, this song is intense. It dabbles between a post-punk harshness and a more indie-rock styled infectious energy, creating a super cool blend that, although I could compare to bands like Spiritual Cramp or Teen Mortgage, really carves its own path. I love the fast-paced nature of this track because it instantly gave me the energy boost I was craving. On top of that, there’s a definite groove to this song that matches the swagger of the vocals oh so perfectly. Overall, “Pretend” from Astro Brat is one of those songs that has left me with very little to say because, truthfully, I just wanted to listen to this song over and over again for enjoyment, not to critique it.
