I don’t have anything for you this morning. at I’m my normal level of tired and already struggling to get through the morning at my day, job so now feels like the perfect time to start checking out some new music starting with “fourplay” from Four Stars.
Four Stars is not a new band to me; I’ve shared out a few of their singles before and have even worked with this band in the past as their booking agent. It’s no surprise that I love this band and will always support them but their song “fourplay” really got me even with my backstory with this band. The song kicks off with strong vocals. The beginning feels raw, but as the song moves on, you get a very polished pop-punk sound in the vein of bands like Sparks the Rescue and Forever the Sickest Kids. This is a super infectious love song with fun and playful lyrics that somehow hit right to the core, even though they are about “cotton candy clouds.” Out of everything I’ve heard from Four Stars, this is definitely the poppiest thus far. I’m not typically one for such a commercial sound, but what Four Stars does with it and the way they wrap it in intricate depths and lush layers of sound is truly genius. Maybe this is just a fluke, maybe this is a new direction for this band; either way, I will continue to worship this Midwest band.
