Although last night was an intense metal show and tonight will surely be another one, I’m in the mood for uplifting music. I need songs that will keep me going through my current exhaustion and songs that make me optimistic that I will get to the end of this week without going absolutely crazy. Long story short, I need songs like “Postcard” from Rabbits on Trees.
As Rabbits on Trees put it, “I wrote this song in an attempt to find a more positive vibe with my music.” Although Lukas Mattke, the human behind Rabbits on Trees, seems to describe a challenge to keep the positive vibe in this song while staying true to their emotional side, I think they nailed it. There’s something raw and earnest about this song but also something super fun at the same time. Stylistically, this song bridges the gap between an indie-pop jam and a folk-punk anthem. There are moments of speed followed by moments of emotionally drenched and intimate glimpses into Rabbits on Trees’ life. “Postcard” can either be a shoulder to lean on when you need a feeling of comfort or a pump-up jam when you need a burst of energy, and that’s what makes this song so perfect.
